2 illegal drug factories sealed, Rs 1.25 crore material seized

Ahmedabad, 18 Nov (PTI) Two drug factories, operating without a license, have been sealed and "spurious" drugs worth over Rs 1.25 crore have been seized during a raid of the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) in Narol area here today.
"Two illegal factories, under the name of Vimco Industries and Radhe Biotech in Narol, were raided today by our team while acting on a tip-off," FDCA Commissioner H G Khosia said.

These factories were operating without a drug license and sending spurious drugs in the form of tablets, capsules and syrups to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa, he said, adding that the drugs were sold under the label of a Himachal Pradesh-based company. According to Khosia, 10 truck-loads of drugs and raw material have been seized and over 13 samples have been sent for testing.
The drugs that were found to be manufactured included Azithromycin, Ofloxacin, Ornidzole and Paracetamol to name a few, he added. These establishment were registered in the name of one Shashi Sharma and his wife Vijaya Sharma, FDCA officials said, adding that action would be taken against the duo under provisions of the Drug and Cosmetics act.
