Two arrested for selling spurious drugs

New Delhi, 26 Aug (PTI) Delhi Police today claimed to have smashed a gang selling spurious medicines with the arrest of two persons and recovery of drugs worth over Rs 1.37 crore.
Police said 26.48 lakh spurious Voveran tablets -- pain killers -- were seized besides unearthing a packaging plant in Pilakhuwa of Uttar Pradesh.

Bhim Singh Tyagi (48) and Srinath Mudgil (54) were apprehended on August 10 on a tip off, a senior police official said.
Tyagi is a diploma holder in Electro-Magnetics. He obtained a license to run a chemist shop in Ghaziabad five years ago.
"He found that there were meagre profits in selling genuine medicines. He met one Dinesh Sahu about four years ago and started supplying spurious spurious Voveran tablets which he got packed from his associate Mudgil," the official said.
Mudgil, who has completed a course in Ayurveda, had obtained a license to pack generic medicines in Pilakhuwa. However, in addition to packaging generic medicines he allegedly started packing Diclofenac Sodium tablets supplied by Tyagi as Voveran tablets.
Earlier in July, police had arrested four persons of this racket.
