Drug racket busted, 14 held

VISAKHAPATNAM, 11 JAN: The city central crime station sleuths busted a drug racket on Monday and arrested a 14-member gang. Curiously, several of the accused are painters by profession and are illiterate. A huge quantity of prescription, anti-depressant drugs and other medicines were recovered from the gang members.
City police commissioner J Purnachandra Rao said the gang procured the drugs from medicine shops and sold them to gullible students and youngsters at double the price. They had even spread their network to neighbouring states of Orissa and Chhattisgarh.

One Marsi Mohan Kishore, who was arrested in a chain-snatching case, spilled the beans and based on the clues provided by him, the police nabbed the gang members. The gang procured injections like Fortwin, tablets and capsules like Nitrosun and Spasmo-Proxyvon, anti-depressant drug Alprazolam and cough syrups from medical stores and sold them to border areas of Parlakhimidi and Berhampur in Orissa and some areas in Chhattisgarh at double the price to make a fast buck.
A case was registered under sections 328 and 336 of IPC on the accused.
