VISAKHAPATNAM, 11 JAN: The city central crime station sleuths busted a drug racket on Monday and arrested a 14-member gang. Curiously, several of the accused are painters by profession and are illiterate. A huge quantity of prescription, anti-depressant drugs and other medicines were recovered from the gang members. City police commissioner J Purnachandra Rao said the gang procured the drugs from medicine shops and sold them to gullible students and youngsters at double the price. They had even spread their network to neighbouring states of Orissa and Chhattisgarh. |

BELGAUM INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL-2011
 Shri.Abhay Patil (MLA, Belgaum Dakshin). Member of Legislative Assembly Govt of Karnataka,India, Festival Organiser | An International Kite Festival will be organised for the first time in Belgaum on 16th and 17th January 2011. Various teams across the country as also those of foreigners will be participating in the two-days festival. Interestingly, Flyers will fly the Kites at night as well near Kote Kere, at Belgaum Fort, which is a first of its kind experiment in the entire country. Flying kites attached with lamps / lights during the night on 16th will be the Star Attraction of this unique festival. International Kite Festivals have been held so far in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) for some years now. But, Belgaum is going to host one such Festival for the first time. The festival will see a huge number and giant sized Kites, including Dragon Kites, Train Kites, Stunt Kites, Parafoils, Air-Inflated Kites, Eagles and Kathakali Kites. Giant Kites like Motorised and Fiberglass Kites, Traditional Paper Kites and Designer Kites, which perhaps you might not have seen before will also dot the Belgaum skies for two days, thereby creating a colourful canopy that promises an awesome spectacle for the viewers. |

Karnataka drugs control dept seizes drugs worth Rs. 20 lakh from unlicensed dealer
Bangalore, 6 Jan: In massive hunt to seize the drugs found to be not-of-standard quality, the Karnataka drugs control department seized drugs worth Rs.20 lakh from an unlicensed dealer Airer Natural Products Pvt. Ltd. here on January 3, 2011. The company's health division had undertaken the sales of the drugs which are antibiotics and antihistamines manufactured by Zeta Labs in Solan in Himachal Pradesh. Drug inspector Manjunath Reddy under the supervision of assistant drugs controller Narayan Reddy representing Bangalore Circle 1, conducted the raid. The investigation is under progress, Dr BR Jagashetty, Karnataka Drugs Controller told this reporter. |

Karnataka govt clears Drugs Control Dept's proposal to carry out drug sampling drive
Bangalore, 4 Jan: Karnataka drugs control department has received clearance from the State government to implement the project on drug sampling. The project is expected to help assess the quality of drugs and check the sale of not-of-standard quality medicines in circulation. Karnataka will be second state in the country after Andhra Pradesh to implement the drug sampling drive which tested about 530 samples and found around only 11 drugs to be not-of-standard quality. The department is now in the process of identifying the about 5-10 category of drugs of varied therapeutic segments to be selected at random. These drugs will be tested at any of the laboratories which are government approved and could be in the private sector. | |
